Enugu officials killed 17-year old boy

Chidiebere
The mother of a 17-year old boy allegedly beaten to death by officials of the Enugu State Waste Management Authority (ESWAMA), Catherine Ede, has called on the police to bring the killers to book.

Ede, whose son, Chidiebere Ede, was killed on 7 April after being beaten by ESWAMA officials is yet to get justice for the death of her teenage son. Her family had complained to the management of ESWAMA but had not received any response.

Narrating her ordeal, Ede, who hails from Owo in Nkanu East Local Government Area, said a group of people, who called themselves staff of ESWAMA, beat up her son to a point of death and dumped him around Cornerstone Bus Stop on Nike Lake Road, Enugu.

“My son left our house at No. 21 Ifenze Street in Abakpa by 5.45 a.m. to dispose of refuse at a T-junction designated as a refuse dump in Abakpa while I was dressing-up to go to the market.

“When I got to the junction, I saw a group of boys beating my son, dragging him inside their bus, and when I asked them what was wrong, they said he was under arrest and must reach their office.

“As the beating was getting much, I asked my son to follow them to their office while I left for the house to get the money for his bail,” she said.

She stated that on her way to bail her son, she discovered that her son had been dumped on the road by the group. “My son was taken to a private hospital for treatment but died at 3 p.m. He was writing his Senior School Certificate Examination.

“Help me tell ESWAMA and the police to fish out the people that killed my son. God is watching,” she lamented.

Ede also said that the corpse of her late son had been deposited in a morgue.

The doctor who attended to the deceased, Martin Chukwunweike ,said the teenager was brought to the hospital unconscious, with cuts on his head and face before he gave up the ghost during treatment.

Ebere Amaraizu, state police spokesman, said the police had commenced investigation into the matter while

Also reacting, the Managing Director of ESWAMA, Dom Okonkwo, said he had no comments since the police had commenced investigations.
