Many people were shocked yesterday in Akure, Ondo State capital, as an ex-military officer, Dasilva Adedipe, allegedly shot dead his 24-year-old son, Ayo Adedipe, over an argument on electricity bill.
It was gathered that an argument ensued between father and son over the settlement of electricity bill, thus annoying the former, who went inside to pick his gun with which he shot the latter dead.
A source, who described the incident as unfortunate, said the action of the father was a surprise to neighbours. Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Wole Ogodo, said that the wife of the deceased, Olaide, reported the matter to the police in Akure.
According to the wife, the incident happened on Maronu Street at Araromi area of Akure at about 9:am, adding that the exmilitary officer shot his son at a very close range.
She claimed that the father, after realising that he had killed his son, carried the latter’s body out of the house to an unknown destination.
The PPRO, however, said policemen swung into action immediately the incident was reported and went after the assailant, but could discover the deceased’s body at Onigari village near Akure.
The body was later taken to the state specialist hospital morgue in Akure for autopsy but the father has been on the run.
The case has been transferred to the state’s Criminal Investigation Department, as the police promised to arrest the suspect for prosecution.
