pipeline vandals, who were alleged to have destroyed Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) pipeline in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, were on Sunday burnt to death in the state.
the deceased met their untimely death while scooping oil from a well dug under the pipeline. Commander of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Vincent Bature, who conducted journalists round the site of the inferno, said two of the vandals died on the spot while the other two gave up the ghost at the Evangel Hospital while receiving treatment.
According to him, the fire started when an argument among the vandals on how they would share their loot ensued, which resulted in one of them in annoyance, lit his cigarette and threw the match stick in the well.Two of them in the well were completely burnt while the other two who were partially affected were rescued and moved to the hospital where they later gave up the ghost. Barure condemned the activities of the pipeline vandals, describing it as a national sabotage capable of slowing down the nation’s economic growth.
The NSCDC boss advised the youths to desist from engaging in such illegal business, advising them to get a job or any other viable source of income.
