Onaiyekan Tasks Govt Over Social Security For The Aged

The Archbishop of Abuja, His Eminence John Cardinal Onaiyekan (CON),has tasked the Federal government to put in place  a proactive social security safety net for the  most vulnerable in the society.
He also lamented at the unguarded award of National merit award to people of questionable characters said it has lost its value.
The Cardinal made the remarks at the reception ceremony organised in his honour by the sons and daughters of Kabba in Kabba/ Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Onaiyekan noted that his promotion to the hall of Cardinals and the honour done to him by the Kabba people were added responsibility for him.
He called on Nigerians to strive for good name, and called for the bestowing of honour on worthy individuals who have made their marks so as to engender the spirit of hard work and patriotism on the younger generation.
He, however, said a social security instrument for the aged and the vulnerable in the society would make Nigerians to shun corruption while in active service since they have something to fall back on when they retire.
In his speech, Governor Captain Idris Wada represented by his Deputy, Yomi Awoniyi, described the elevation of Cardinal Onaiyekan as a blessing to Kogi State.
Wada noted that Cardinal Onaiyekan has become a role model to the youths, and called on him not to relent in his service to humanity and the State in particular.
The Governor also called on him to continuously place the administration and the State in prayers for continuous guidance.
He added that the State Government was already working towards a policy that would cater for the aged, and assured that the policy would be unveiled as soon as the modalities were worked out.
