Cultists kill pregnant woman, 2 others in Lagos

TWO brothers and a pregnant woman have died, following a clash between two cult groups around Shitta area of Surulere, Lagos.

The victims died between Thursday night and Friday morning as groups, suspected to be Eiye and Aiye confraternities, engaged in supremacy battle in the area.

The state police command has, therefore, drafted anti-riot policemen from the Rapid Response Squad, Surulere divisional police station, Bode Thomas police station and Area C police command to the scene, to forestall further breakdown of law and order.

It was gathered that the two brothers must have been part of the target of the operation, but the pregnant woman got hit by stray bullet.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that the two brothers were relaxing at a bar close to Shitta Primary School, when some gunmen suspected to be cultists arrived at the scene and started shooting into the air.

The two brothers, one of them simply identified as Mufu, died on the spot, while the pregnant woman died on the way to the hospital.

A resident of the area, who spoke with the Nigerian Tribune under condition of anonymity, said the incident might not be unconnected with the battle between two cult groups in the area.

The image maker in charge of the state police command, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the reports to the Nigerian Tribune, adding that two people had been arrested in connection with the incident
